Our hot summer days have certainly arrived. I am someone that loves the heat because I seek out water sports, so I welcome the hot dry air. Here are some suggestions on ways to embrace the high temps.
- Find your closest swimming hole: Public pools, Lucky Peak, Roaring Springs…there’s a wide range of swimming options in the Treasure Valley. Even as a long-term local, I regularly pull up online maps to find a new spot where either the dogs or I can take a dip.
- Get on the river: Idaho is known as the Whitewater State for a reason, and rapids are a great way to cool off. There are commercial outfitters on the Boise River and Payette River if you want a guide to lead the way.
- Start early: No one loves 5:00 am alarms, but you and your dog(s) will appreciate the foothills during sunrise on any July or August morning.
- Head for the mountains: Bogus Basin has lots of family and individual activities. Idaho City is another option that will get you to higher elevation temps within a short drive.
- Go see a movie: When all else fails, a Hollywood retreat can be a nice escape.
